The name Apodaca comes from Dr. Salvador, Bishop of the City of Linares, who was born in Guadalajara, the capital of Jalisco, on December 25, 1769. He studied for the priesthood, and upon being appointed Bishop of Linares, he moved to Monterrey, arriving on January 11, 1844. Apodaca is located within the metropolitan area, northeast of the city of Monterrey, 19 kilometers away, at coordinates 25°47′ north latitude and 100°11′ west longitude.
It is located 405 meters above sea level. It borders the municipality of General Zuazua to the north; Guadalupe to the south; Pesquería to the east; and San Nicolás de los Garza to the west.
