Directions

The trailhead is located in the community of San José de Las Joyas. One way to get there is to take Highway 57 (Matehuala-Monterrey) east toward Potosí and Galeana.

Cerro del Potosí, located in Galeana, Nuevo León, is the highest mountain in the Sierra Madre Oriental range within the state, standing at 3,710–3,721 meters above sea level; it has been designated a Protected Natural Area since 2000. It is notable for its pine forests, alpine meadows, extreme climate with winter snowfall, and species such as the black bear and white-tailed deer.
