Moenia is one of the most influential and enduring synthpop bands in Latin America. Formed in Mexico City in the early 1990s by Alfonso Pichardo, Jorge Soto, and Alejandro “Midi” Ortega, the group stood out for introducing electronic sounds and melancholic atmospheres into a music scene dominated by more traditional genres. Their style, influenced by groups like Depeche Mode and the Pet Shop Boys, resonated with an audience eager for innovative sounds, establishing Moenia as pioneers of Spanish-language synthpop. Throughout their career, Moenia has demonstrated a remarkable ability to reinvent itself, as the band has explored various facets of electronic pop while always maintaining a distinctive sound.
