Hualahuises is located about an hour and a half from the capital; it’s a fairly quiet town rich in traditions that you’re sure to love.
It was founded in 1646 by Don Martín de Zavala. The locals say the town is nicknamed “The Vatican” because its entire territory borders Linares—just as the Vatican City borders Italy. It is a region dedicated entirely to artisanal crafts and leather goods, so you can find everything from leather belts to saddles, traditional toys, and wooden furniture.

The most popular festival is the Annual Geranium Fair, where locals and tourists can purchase the famous flower that serves as the town’s symbol; it’s an event we highly recommend you attend.

You have to visit the suspension bridges over the Hualahuises River; they're nearly 80 meters long, and we were told that the locals built them themselves.

Visit Hualahuises to enjoy the tranquility and warmth of its people—we promise you won't regret it.
