La Purísima Cakes: The Favorites of the People of Monterrey

We'll tell you all about the favorite dish of Monterrey locals.

When people arrive in Nuevo León, especially in Monterrey and its metropolitan area, many ask the same question: “What do people eat here?” They’re almost always referring to street food, of which we have a wide variety available at any time of day, but today we’ll take a look at one of the crown jewels—a favorite among the locals.

If you’re looking for something delicious, quick, and filling in downtown Monterrey, there’s nothing better than a good torta from La Purísima. It’s packed with layer upon layer of different kinds of ham, pork cheese, white cheese, and half an avocado (yes, HALF AN AVOCADO)—all wrapped in the sweet embrace of a margarita bun made especially for this stand.

Just a heads-up: these sandwiches aren't for people who get messy easily. There aren't even chairs at this stand for the people preparing the food—everyone stands—but with a massive sandwich like that, you obviously won't even think about sitting down.

If you want to go try some, they're near La Purísima Church—that's where their name comes from. We've included the location below. Don't miss out—go get some!
